Canforce 3804 to Malta

Earlier today I picked up comms from Canforce 3804 wkg Trenton Military on 11232 kHz. This is a Canadian Air Force CC-177 registration # 177703. Flight was en route Ottawa to Malta probably to pick up evacuees from Libya.

2598 USB 0742z: Presumed Canadian Coast Guard with WX forecast.

2749 USB 0745z: Canadian Coast Guard with male giving weather report for Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

5696 USB 0759z: USCG (possibly CAMSPAC) with test counts. Station had occasional microphone feedback during transmission.

5547 USB 1332z: Teal 74 wkg San Francisco advising they will be releasing weather instruments at 52N 146.30W.

5634 USB 1459z: Go Cat 2717 wkg Brisbane with position report. Airbus A320 en route Perth to Singapore.

5552 USB 1557z: Male/male Italian (?) language comms. One party kept laughing hysterically.

5547 USB 1652z: San Francisco wkg CDG5560. Selcal checked BRCF. Boeing 737-800. B-5560. Delivery flight for Shandong Airlines en route from Boeing Field to Honolulu.

13312 USB 1946z: ALE id’s G2A clg H3A followed by voice traffic between two stations. Callsigns sound like Baton and Cartel 211. User referred to the frequency as channel 5. Any ideas?

12222 USB 2211z: Coast Guard 6574 wkg Sector Puget Sound (ALE id Z30) for radio checks in the clear and secure ANDVT.

258.650 MHz: Dirty 12 calling Trail Boss on UHF SATCOM.

Tonight I monitored “Longbow 414” calling for radio checks on 258.650. The same unit self ID’ed as Army Copter 35414. Another station identifying as “Spearhead Mike” comes up in the red and both report loud and clear.

10780 USB 1616z: Freedom Star clg Cape Radio for radio check.

9132 USB 2256z: Freedom Star wkg BRD in regards to SRB recovery from STS-133.

Bloodhound 300, Bloodhound 701, 401 and 442 wkg Surveillance on 8000 kHz USB this past Monday (2/21) coordinating vessel movements within a hazard area for a missile test off the coast of Southern California. The Arrow 2 missile defense system test is a joint exercise between the United States and Israel that intercepted and destroyed a simulated Iranian ballistic missile threat.

Around sunset the stations switched over to frequency 2781.5 kHz USB for the remainder of the exercise. It was definitely an exciting event to monitor!

Here is a recording of radio traffic monitored on 8000 kHz USB. In the clip you will hear aircraft passing details about several vessels, and trying to deal with a stubborn captain refusing to alter his course!
