8000 USB 0021z: Bloodhound 300, Bloodhound 701, 401 and 442 wkg Surveillance tracking vessels located within the hazard area. This is a coordination net for the Arrow 2 anti-ballistic missile defense system test off San Nicolas Island.

8000 USB 0158z: 442 advising “99 Bloodhounds” to switch to tertiary for comms w/ Surveillance.

2781.5 USB 0241z: Bloodhound 302, 340, 341, 442 and Surveillance in coordination net for Arrow 2 anti-missile test from San Nicolas Island.

5080 USB 0413z: Diane G wkg Caw One on w/ casual sounding QSO about plans for tomorrow.

2781.5 USB 0624z: 442 passes report of “6 minutes and counting” to 99 Bloodhounds. At 0630z station 442 reports “target away”.

2781.5 USB 0638z: 442 advised 99 Bloodhounds cleared to RTB via the holding points and to not enter the pattern.

11282 USB 2134z: San Francisco wkg Raider 08.

11232 USB 2243z: Chalice Fox wkg Corner Stone reporting issue with SATCOM and asks if they can have radio maintenance help troubleshoot. Will call back in 20 min to allow them to coordinate the maintenance request. Station terminates p/p w/ Trenton Military signs off as Sentry 30.

11220 USB 2245z: Sumo 03 wkg Offutt for p/p to March Base Ops and passes updated arrival time. Sumo 03 requests additional p/p to March ARB Metro and requests weather for arrival time.

251.850 Tuna

More clear activity w/ Tuna calling Lion 01 on “sat bravo” for radio check.  

Scanning through some of the UHF SATCOM freqs this morning, I picked up an aircraft identifying as “Tuna” calling “Thunder 77” and “Control” on 251.850.

8000 USB 2043z: Bloodhound 701 wkg Surveillance for radio check.

8000 USB 2053z: Bloodhound 300 wkg Surveillance for HF radio check on secondary.

8000 USB 2153z: Bloodhound 300 wkg Surveillance w/ tracking info for container ship Ever Dyanamic. 300 informs Surveillance that vessel has 20 persons on board and destination is Hong Kong.

8000 USB 2158z: 442 wkg Surveillance passing report for 3 contacts. First contact position 30.39N 123.07N heading 069 at 20 knots vessel name Jean Anne. Second contact is 30.12N 122.26W heading 314 at 11.7 knots vessel name Alpine Light. Third vessel contact is the APL Tourma and located 30.32N 123.13W heading 303 at 20knots.

5690 JSDF Comms?

I have been hearing Japanese comms on 5690 USB lately. Last night I monitored what sounded like JJN6 wkg 1BM giving weather conditions for Nagasaki. I have also noticed that the stations occasionally exchange what sounds like RTTY data in between voice comms. The frequency can be heard from California most nights between 0800z and 1200z.

4464.5 USB 0132z: AFF6AR announcing to stand by for another MT63 practice message, then followed by digital data.

4469 USB 0133z: Florida Civil Air Patrol net w/ station taking check-ins from Region 5 and Region 6.

13261 USB 0136z: Convoy 3065 wkg San Francisco w/ position 05N 157W 0135 at FL250. Estimates 10N 157W at 0242, 15N 158W next.

13300 USB 0137z: Hawaiian 455 wkg San Francisco w/ position report. Boeing 767-300 en route from Honolulu to Manila.

12359 USB 0139z: Man talking about spending time in Hawaii and the possibility of heading down to Fiji. Another guy said he had about 600 miles to go until reaching the Galapagos and he planned to spend several weeks there until heading over to Easter Island.

8894 USB 0148z: Springbok 237 wkg Niamey w/ position and selcal check for QSBJ. Airbus A340-200. ZS-SLC. London to Johannesburg.

5360 USB 0745z: Sailor CRY2001 analog voice scrambled comms.

11282 USB 2138z: Convoy 2469 wkg San Francisco to confirm oceanic route and selcal check on BRHM. Gulfstream C-20. 165093. En route from Fallon Naval Air Station to Kaneohe Bay MCAS Airport.

13231 USB 2149z: Gray Knight 802 wkg Habitat and inquires about letter designator for uniform freq.

8971 USB 2328z: Pelican (??) wkg Fiddle request they kick green followed by ANDVT.

5643 Nadi ACC

Nadi ACC on 5643 kHz with a fantastic signal this morning. 5643 is a MWARA South Pacific (SP-6) frequency. Other MWARA frequencies used by Nadi include: 3467, 8867, 13261 and 17904 kHz. From California the best time to monitor is during the night and early morning hours. The MWARA SP-6 group is also used by San Francisco OACC, Brisbane ACC, Auckland OACC and Tahiti OACC.

8912 USB 0145z: Foxtrot 41 secures radio guard w/ CAMSLANT reports on final to home plate CGAS Corpus Christi.

5690 USB 0804z: Japanese accented male wkg unheard station. Station also transmitted RTTY sounding data between voice comms.

5589 USB 0808z: Fishermen in QSO discussing an eighty pounder. Stations used profanity and identified with first names.

5643 USB 1348z: Nadi wkg VeeOz 2 w/ sigmet advisory for moderate thunderstorms in the Nadi flight information region observed within area 08.30S 170.36E – 12.24S 176.24E – 08.36S 178.30W – 13.30S 175.48W – 14.12S 178.42W – 12.42S 170.30E – 08.30S 170.36E tops to FL400. VAU2 is a Boeing 777-300ER operated by V Australia. En route from Los Angeles to Sydney.

5643 USB 1352z: Nadi wkg Pacific 822. Boeing 737-700 en route from Christmas Island, Kiribati to Honolulu.

5634 USB 1508z: Mauritius Radio wkg Malaysian 204. Boeing 777-200 en route from Johannesburg to Kuala Lumpur.

7527 USB 1856z: Kilo 69 calling TSC (Service Center) for radio check. Both report lima charlie.

11494 USB 1935z: CAMSPAC wkg Coast Guard 1703 and relays message from Sector San Francisco about the training mission w/ USCGC Tern. 1703 acknowledges and informs CAMSPAC they are in comms w/ cutter Tern on 21A.

8912 USB 2135z: CAMSLANT wkg Kilo 58 for ops and position. Kilo 58 reports 30.15N 082.05W.

Picked up a few calls on 251.850 this afternoon from a station that sounded like “Argos Xray 1” calling “Argos 77” for commo checks.
